See the rainbows coming from the ray of sun. Sweet.
Bonita Springs peeps getting into the vibes with Dr Djo Bi, a master drummer with roots from Gouro tradition, one of the 65 Ivory Coast drumming traditions he knows along with other West African drum rhythms.
It was my birthday and what better gift could Starbo give me but a private drum class with Dr Djo Bi for me and a few friends. We gathered in my back yard under our giant elephant ear tree. How fitting. Everyone started kicking around some beats. He takes the chaos that we were creating before he began to teach and masterfully syncs us as one. Not sure everyone present that day knew the extent of talent that would be teaching before they came but once he started playing it was very obvious to all.
His rhythms sing like the songs of Africa rising from the earth when the savannas are alive and kicking and the River Comoé is pulsating along. His song rises effortlessly, connecting our souls heart to our bodies. He has been blessed with a life that afforded him the wealth of the true heart of Africa. He is walking proof of a being that landed on earth knowing fully who he was to become and opened his veins to the dance that is Africa, opened the chambers to his heart to the love that is Africa, opened his cerebrum for others to use as a rhythmical historical download.
He has been sharing all that he has learned since his early 20’s with whomever is present in his life. When Dr Djo Bi is in the house, beats fly, laughter plays and dancing is hard to resist.
